09:59 Carol the postie has just delivered the deluxe boxset of Be Bop Deluxe - Futurama. I'm in all day so it will be sorted soon and on the system ready to play. This and Drastic Plastic are the best two Be Bop albums; (in my opinion - no doubt someone will disagree)!
What's next Bill for the Cherry Red treatment?
Just had my copy delivered too. Not played yet, but the packaging is terrific - even better than the Sunburst set IMHO. Well done Cherry Red!
Yes have been absorbing myself in the great packaging and booklets....now to shut curtains and put the 5.1 mix on very loud......really hoping Modern Music is next for this excellent treatment
Yes got mine today, direct from Cherry Red at less than £50 delivered in the UK. Those lovely people at 'the river' will charge you £20+ more.....they did the same with Sunburst Finish.....
Very interesting and entertaining Interview of the making Futurama on Cherry Red TV https://youtu.be/w0qTRTdxSHo
hmmm,
Modern Music next hopefully ....
Anyone have any signed postcards? I'm sure I remember Bill saying he was going to Cherry Red to sign some.
Maybe I'm just unlucky :(
My postcards are not signed!
Those are not the postcards I signed...the ones I signed are for the 'Modern Music' reissue I believe. Sorry for the confusion!
Thanks Bill. I thought I had seen you write about signing postcards for Modern Music. But I couldn't find it using the search facility here. I did, however, find a journal entry where you thought you were going to sign cards for Futurama.
So, two questions cleared up with one observation. Good work :)
Just playing the new stereo mix. I like it. It sounds wonderful on my system!
Playing it now, listening with headphones. Not such an obvious remix - so far - as Sunburst Finish was. No surprises yet. I feel as though a layer of discoloured varnish has been taken off. I believe I can hear more of everything in the background, but that might just be because I'm listening much more closely than usual.
Would be interested to know what Bill thinks - asssuming he has listened to it - since he wasn't fond of the Sunburst Finish remix.
And I award 11 out of 10 for the whole package!
And great sound on the Radio 1 In Concert!
And, finally, on the Maid In Heaven promo video - a Fender Tele Thinline!!! Which seems to play itself ;)
Great stuff!
Just started listening to the 5.1 for the second time but after the first play I am pretty impressed.
Must admit Futurama wasn't my favourite Be Bop album (Modern Music takes that award, possibly because it was my first Be Bop album after discovering them through Hot Valves) but every time I listen to Futurama I am reminded what a fantastic album it is!
Think it may benefit from playing loud so will have to do this next time the wife is out.
I went to the local HMV yesterday on my lunch break. I thought I would have a look and see if they were stocking the Futurama reissue. No nothing there! Good job I got mine direct from source.
My thoughts after a couple of listens. Did not put a huge grin on my face the way that the Sunburst 5.1 mix did - though Soundtrack and Swan Song I think sound great, akin to having 45 years of varnish removed from an old master. But I am fully aware its all in the ear of the beholder. I closed my eyes and was 15 again, listening on a crappy old Pye record player (the one where you stacked 7 inches up and if you were lucky they came down one at a time) lost in the aromas of Clearasil, Brut, Vesta curries and Sandwich spread. In my Simon shirts and Brutus jeans lost in a sea of raging hormones and unrequited love........
just listened to the two disc version. the outro on "Soundtrack" is just bone chilling. i think it rivals the solo on "Crying to the Sky". Fantastic stuff !!
