I thought about mentioning this in the "World Outside The Window" forum, but in looking at the topics recently discussed, they seem fairly non-music-related. Also, since Bill recently posted here about Jon Hassell's passing, this did not seem a completely inappropriate place to mention this upcoming book.
This fall, a book called "Atmospherics" will be published. It will include essays and notes by Jon Hassell that he originally published online, especially concerning his albums "Vernal Equinox," "Fourth World Vol. 1: Possible Music," "Dream Theory in Malaya: Fourth World Vol. 2," and "Listening to Pictures." According to the publisher, profits from this book will be donated to the "Go Fund Me" page that was begun to assist Jon Hassell in paying for his medical care when he was still alive, and now, is maintained to assist in the payment of outstanding medical charges that were incurred during the last year of his life.
That sounds like a wonderful way to honour the life and work of Jon Hassell. I will certainly be purchasing the book when it is available. But yet again, I'm shocked that so many American musicians find it such a struggle to pay for their medical treatments in old age. Thank goodness for the health system we are so fortunate to call on here in the UK.
