First a declaration: Bill Nelson is the ONLY musician currently creating new, original music of which i am willing to happily purchase releases on the physical medium of CDs. (and in this case, a double-disc! 😃)
As i am absorbing both CDs of Dazzlebox, i am struck once again by the meticulousness and care that Bill puts into his compositions/playing/arrangements. But this intrinsic craft is never at the expense of the direct heart in creation. Instruments dance and weave and flow purposely but also loosely and freely, organically.
A deft, delicate touch when appropriate. Soaring, driving, circling guitars emotionally responding. The craft is evident, even as such sounds transcend its "box". Shimmering shapes signal the soul.
Been listening to Dazzlebox daily since it arrived - and really finding it bliss. One of Bill's best ever? Who knows, but certainly one of his most complex, "deep" and immersive albums, with surprising twists galore. 😎 Total joy to listen to...
Listened to disc 1 recently. There’s a lot to take in, but it’s a familiar pleasure to the ears. I have nothing bad to say about it - just realizing that there‘s a great artist here getting along with his work. I could be critical about certain introductions that may sound like other song intros, or certain synth sound choices, etc. But that’s Bill’s style - like Picasso’s style in working with the tools at his disposal and whatever is transpiring. Us fans just enjoy it! Thanks, Bill.
On my "to do" list for today. Gonna give it a spin.
