Where is comedy in music? Mozart wrote comedy -- "A Musical Joke" E522 -- in his music, so why can't we have it today? What vehicle would serve that purpose? I think if Bill redid the Sunburst Finish, he could incorporate jokes in it. That would in some respects put him up there with Mozart, which is a hefty legacy. On the original Sunburst Finish, Bill makes his guitar laugh in the song "Old Blues," so why not continue in that vein?
Here is an example of where Bill might want to go. I did a Benny Hill/Monty Python kind of thing for Roxy Music:
And Bill can go with something like this:
But regardless of the type of humor, Bill should seriously take up the idea of humor for Sunburst Finish -- should he decide to redo the album. There is so much in addition to humor he could add. With the help of John Leckie and maybe Andrew Clark, if he is still around, it could be an extraordinary album. There has been so much talk about Sunburst Finish, so why not continue it with a new version? This version could have a vibe never seen before. Abbey Roads and McCartney are still there, and all you need is the original drive that you had in the beginning. Investors and fans would be clamoring at the bit. The BBC legacy department would support and push it. So with all this talk about comedy, it would be tragic if nothing came from it.
I'm not saying make the whole album comedic. I'm just saying, make it. Have some comedy, but surely make it.
My sincere apologies Bill.
Comedy Rock ?.. Frank Zappa was a Master . Goblin Girls. Coneheads. It's a fairly long list.
Most of the above is mildly funny, but not in a 'hah, hah,' sense. It has nothing to do with the direction of my own work and only concerns the attention grabbing of a certain individual. Of course anyone with any insight into what I'm actually interested in achieving would never suggest such a banal and trivial wastes of my time. So, either get on the beam or tune out.
Humour does belong in music, check out Les Dawson circa long ago - https://youtu.be/t2vIB8urcHM
or maybe Victor borge - https://youtu.be/dKeqaDSjy98

I'm sure that any day now, a lightbulb will ping on above Bill's head as he realises that what is missing from his musical journey is a comedy version of Sunburst Finish, with Macca on bass and a naked Queen look-a-like holding a flaming guitar on the front cover...it seems a most obvious choice of album, I can't believe he hasn't done it yet!
I don't see how contributing to the forum is making it mine or making it about me. It's true that I have a lot of posts in the lower section. In that respect, I'm showing my music and how prolific I am by nature. But other people have their art there too. That was Bill's intent, after all.
I come up with ideas for Bill and Sunburst Finish, and I don't see how that makes it about me. I try to help out -- now I'm even buying albums to show my appreciation, so, again, how does that make it about me? You may disagree or not like my ideas, but that doesn't mean it's all about me.
If you disagree with me or my ideas in general, then can I suggest you do yourself a favor and don't bother reading my posts. If it's causing you grief, just read the posts of people you like. It's that simple.
So Count Vlad returns. Trying to make Bill’s forum all about Count Vlad. Sighhhhh.
Well, okay. What I see as funny, especially in the Roxy Music pictures, is that we wouldn't associate the Queen wanting to be glamorous in the same way as a pop star or beautiful model… but she may have those urges. And then when we see it, we think it is ridiculous and laugh. One of the best comedic movies is Johnny English where he uses the Queen. The Queen is somehow untouchable, and that makes her a great source to poke fun at. And sometimes the Royals go with it and give it their blessing, as in the James Bond theme to some event that had the Queen jumping out of a plane with a parachute.
Yes, you're right about Blazing Apostles which is a send-up of sorts. I think Sunburst Finish II would be a great album. And if Paul McCartney actually played bass on it, it would be truly great and memorable. I know an actress in New York City who is/was dating Paul McCartney's son and if Bill wants, I could get her to ask about Paul playing on the album. At the least, he might agree to come in to talk about seeing Be-Bop Deluxe in Abbey Road.
Incidentally, didn't Bill do New Northern Dream? It can be done.
I'm with Brassneck - I don't find the pictures in the slightest bit funny. (I'm no fan of the monarchy, so it's not because you've used the Queen.) And I don't want a remake of "Sunburst Finish".
Humour in music? Start with the Bonzo Dog Doo-dah Band - though I doubt that they would be understood in North America.
Joe Walsh's "Life's Been Good" always makes me smile, as well as being a fantastic piece of work.
Sadly, I have to put Randy Newman away in the "should have got into, but never got round to it" file.
And to get back to "Sunburst Finish", surely "Blazing Apostles" is nothing but ironic or satirical humour?
Brassneck, people go crazy for this kind of humor in the states and Canada. I put the Roxy Music pictures up at fan sites and people love it!
