Campaign To Get Bill Nelson on Later With Jools Holland
Chris Needham came up with an excellent idea. While visiting the Later with Jools Holland web site - http://www.bbc.co.uk/later - he noticed that the show is canvassing for suggestions for the 16th series later this year. Do we know anybody who ought to be on Later with Jools Holland? I think we do! Email your suggestion to later@bbc.co.uk

Be Bop Deluxe:

King Biscuit Flower Hour - British Biscuit - Live In Oxford, 1978
This show was broadcast on King Biscuit Flower Hour, but as "the British Biscuit." The broadcast was all tunes from Drastic Plastic, with the exception of Forbidden Lovers.

How Can We Get It Released?

Live In The Air Age

For years this recording was available in the UK on EMI and available in the US via a license with One Way Records.  This recording has gone out of print worldwide during 1999.

Futurama Drastic Plastic
Futurama and Drastic Plastic
1975 and 1978 releases, respectively
These recordings have been re-released a couple times over the past years.  They were put out on CD and re-released in 1990 in the UK, then allowed to go out of print while Axe Victim and Sunburst Finish have stayed in print since then and Modern Music stayed in print sproadically.  All Be Bop Deluxe studio albums have never been offered for sale in the US on CD.

Bill Nelson Major Label Solo:

On A Blue Wing Getting The Holy Ghost Across

In 1986, Bill's US album On A Blue Wing (Getting The Holy Ghost Across in the UK, with a slightly different track listing) was issued on vinyl and cassette, but not compact disc!  It's long been out of print!  On A Blue Wing was issued on Portrait, then a division of CBS.  Getting The Holy Ghost Across was released on CBS in the UK.  A few years ago Sony bought CBS.  Bill stated in Nelsonian Navigator, Issue 2 (December, 1995) that CBS owns the album and it's up to them to put it out on CD.  Here's a way for you to let Sony know that you want to buy this album gathering dust in their vaults:

Vistamix

Vistamix was also allowed to go out of print on CD in the US in 1998.   This album is a US release of the Chimera EP plus a couple of early singles and b-sides.  This was released on the CBS/Epic label, now owned by Sony.

How Can We Get Them Re-Released?

Go to the Sony Legacy Recordings artists web site.  Use the Legacy Recordings Reissue/Compilation Suggestion form and request that On A Blue Wing, Getting The Holy Ghost Across, and Vistamix are all reissued.

The Cocteau Catalog:

What Now, What Next? Simplex
Bill planned on re-releasing his recordings on his own Cocteau Records label in the 1980's on Populuxe in 1997.  This was later scrapped when he left the Resurgence (UK) label.   When Bill hooked up with Discipline Global Mobile in early 1998 it was thought that re-releases would occur.  So far only What Now, What Next?, a double CD of Cocteau Records tracks, plus 6 new songs, have been released.  Nothing has been heard of the back catalog, including the legendary Simplex album, being re-released in some time.  Bill has not mentioned anything about back catalog releases in his diary.

How Can We Get Them Re-Released?

The DGM Guestbook is usually full of King Crimson fans, but since Bill is associated with the label it might not hurt to make some postings regarding Simplex and the Cocteau Records back catalog.  How would they know there is a demand if we don't speak up?
