Not sure how many people know about this, but I'll tell you how I managed to get back £350 through my bank for a non delivery of an item I bought online. It may help some of you in the future if you fall into the same situation.

We all know that when buying something with a credit card and it goes tits up, we can claim through our credit card. This is not the case when buying with a debit card, different rules apply. I bought a weighing scale for my business using my Visa debit card back in February and basically got given the runaround by the company, which, I found out later was basically scamming people...taking the cash and not delivering the goods. Bastards!.

Anyway, it seems that some banks, not all, run a scheme called Chargeback for debit cards, which is similar to the scheme that governs credit cards. So I rang my bank, told them of the situation and hey presto, a week later my account was credited with £350 and my bank is dealing with their bank to recover the money!

Worth knowing folks.... 8)

Andy

Credit cards in the UK are covered by Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act and a joint liability is created when the purchase is made so the Bank is liable with the supplier.

Chargeback is part of the card schemes internal rules and doesn't work every time and has some limitations, but it can be very useful.

Here's a good explaination http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/visa-mastercard-chargeback

Yep, that's the web site I stumbled upon when I was searching for info about claiming on my debit card...didn't know about Chargeback until I read that.

That's very handy to know because I only use debit cards. Thanks.

Most people I know who use weighing scales for business would have threatened the company with an AK47
