a problem with female singers who don't look like Elton John

I'd always thought that Elton's ex-wife, Renate Blauel, looked rather Eltonian but I can't find any pics that actually prove it. And she's not a singer but a sound engineer.

Then I thought of Susan Boyle because of the eyebrows but that doesn't work either.

Did find a pic of Elton in drag singing a duet with Rod Stewart and it's hard to say what woman he resembles. He's sort of a one-off, I guess.

I mean that the suggestion that I would only like a female singer that looked like a gay man because I'm gay is unacceptable. You would not make a similar comment on the basis of race, even in jest.

Is that clear enough for you?

Why don't I just fuck off , anyway?. What's clear is that some of you people still have no clue when I'm being serious and when I'm completely not, even after years of continually horsing around in the least serious manner possible. I apologize to you if I offended you ; I thought the winkycon was enough to demonstrate that I wasn't being serious, even though there was a level of confrontation because of your initial disrespect for Liz Fraiser.

What I said about Liz Fraser is irrelevant -- she makes herself a public figure and my comments relate only to my value judgement of her artistic merit and image.

I know you were not being serious, but I feel I have to highlight these things because the vast majority of people see no problem with it at all. What I am trying to do is to point out to people in general why comments like this might be offensive. That's why I presented it in the context of race. Unless you are in a minority of people who suffer real harassment and prejudice it is perfectly understandable that you would not see it as significant.

Let's face it -- given a choice between you and me, far more people would like me to fuck off. Which I am not going to do, not at the moment, anyway. I think you're great and often extremely funny. Please do not see any more significance in this than my attempt to highlight an issue that matters to me, because I feel (to an extent) I am among friends.

PMT, I am fairly sure you have never said this here before. I understand that you have been in a longstanding relatioship with another man, but if anything it has always appeared that you were uncomfortable with labels. It is what it is sort of thing. Not that it matters, of course. But in Dar's defence, I know him a bit and honestly believe he was not meaning any offence whatsoever. None of this matters to us here. You're one of us - end of story. Sorry you were offended.

All is well.

So . . . is anyone actually going to see Liz Fraser or what?

I feel for you, honestly..being Welsh and all

I'm with astro. I don't want any of you to fuck off.

..and no I'm not going to see Liz Fraser. I'd like to, but it would cost too much and I'm saving for Nelsonica. I wonder if Bill could get her in as a guest to discuss Robin Guthrie's e-bow technique

Check. I'm somewhat insensitive when I think of fun things to say , and overly sensitive when those things come back and bite my butt. I know this about myself , so I don't have a problem admitting it. I'm at another one of those points here in DV where I'm annoying myself , and I can't imagine I'm the only one annoyed, so another apology for being so testy about this , and I'm glad you're able to take it all lightly. I realize some of the difficulty of you're lifestyle, which isn't always as accepted as it is here , and I'll be more careful with the issue in the future . File the 'Elton John' comment under 'couldn't resist (but perhaps should have) ', and we can gladly move on 8) .

Dar

(I think you bring a lot to the forum , btw.)

Just looked at her face again. What I get mostly is a sense of being blissed out with those round eyes and all, finding that congested part in the back of her neck.
