Hi everyone

I'm new to the site (although I registered last year I've only visited a couple of times since) and I'm looking for some recommendations as to where to start catching up on Bill's music.

I was a fan of Be Bop Deluxe years ago - introduced to the band through the Ships in the Night single but fell in love with the 'B' side and began to explore the rest of the records. I soon had copies of all the albums and actually managed to get to see them live on the Modern Music tour at Leeds Grand Theatre. I still have my original vinyls - all of them except Futurama (think I loaned it out and never got it back!) and now my favourite's are on my iphone - Adventures in a Yorkshire Landscape, No Trains to Heaven, Jet Silver and the Dolls of Venus, Blazing Apostles, Fair Exchange (to give you a taste of my taste so to speak).

There's a lot of music to catch up on, I know, but any recommendations you'd care to give would give me an idea of where to start my new collection.

Thanks in advance. :)

I would start at the top and work my way back to 'Ships In the Night.'

Time for a variety pack.

Hi Tracie ( Is It ? )

Welcome to the Inn, where to start, well Its a mighty big list now, 100 Cd's or near enough, I would recommend the recent 8 disc compilation The Practise Of Everyday Life , If you can afford it at £47.00ish,

Its got every thing you need to catch up on, as Its an overview of Bill's entire career,

Plus the package & accompanying booklet are just wonderful, really I would start here, see what music you like & take It from there,

Note Bill hasn't stuck to one particular style at all over the years, Every album is different,

TPOEL lets you taste each era, right up to the present day. Enjoy 8)

Sorry.Just being silly.

If you like Be Bop Deluxe style guitar driven stuff 'Fancy Planets' is a sure bet.

I hear 'Theater of Falling Leaves' is good for fans of Bill's Keyboard/synthy type stuff.

I haven't had a bad experience with any of the albums I bought.

Sounds like you are a fan of the Be Bop era, so I'll say 'Fancy Planets.'

Hope that is a little more helpful. :)

'What Now What Next' compilation is also excellent with lots of 1980s classics and I'd also suggest 'Modern Moods for Mighty Atoms' along with 'Fancy Planets'.

Love to be helpful. :)

Good advice, alec. 'What Now, What Next?' why not? A great sampler type album with beautiful packaging.
