Just a brief message to let you know that I'll be somewhat pre-occupied producing a track for Big Country over the next three days, so won't be able to deal with the forum much until next week. However, I will check through any new posts when I return home from the studio each evening.

Also, Monday is the memorial day for my brother Ian who passed away six years ago now. (23rd April 2006.) Monday would have been Ian's 56th birthday too. I'll be driving over to Wakefield to meet with my mum and Ian's family, to leave flowers on his grave, place three roses on his Sculpture Park bench and share an evening meal with the family in his honour.

Good luck with the session, Bill.

We'll raise a glass in Ian's memory on Monday.

Tom

Just to let you know that the 'Big Country' recording session went really well...a very enjoyable weekend with five talented musicians. We got a very good result from the three days in 'Fairview,' an excellent song that Big Country fans will, I suspect, be very enthusistic about when they eventually get to hear it.

Can we be so bold to ask if Bill played a part as well as producing ?

Can I ask what's the intended outcome for the track? Album track, single, interweb give-away, promo? Will we get to hear it before too long?

I'd like to know the answer to that too. I think everything else that Bill has produced also has him playing, hopefully this is no different.

What was the last production job? Was it The Rain Poets single?

Answers to a few of the above questions:

The Big Country session went extremely well and we have completed and mixed one track which will be set aside for the album which will be recorded later in the year. I won't give away the title of the song here as I'm sure Big Country will want to let their fans know about it on the BG website.

I can tell you that I played a tiny bit of slide guitar on the track and added a couple of seconds of keyboard on the very end of the piece. It's a hugely emotional song with a big, widescreen section which builds from just acoustic guitar and voice to a kind of electric guitar orchestra. A few people who have heard it have said that it could be a very popular single...it has some great radio-play potential.

As for when was the last time I produced anyone else, well, there have been quite a few production sessions since 'The Rain Poets.' (That was ages ago!)
Can't recall the dates but, certainly, there was an album for Roger Eno, two Channel Light Vessel albums, an album for Russian band 'Nautilus Pompilious,' an album for 'Culture Mix,' an album for Japanese band 'Gillcover And The Monkey,' an album for 'The Rhythm Sisters,' a single for 'The Mock Turtles' and probably several other projects I've long forgotten about!
