A touching gesture from Karen
Recently I was contacted by Dave who had tragically lost his lovely wife Karen to cancer.Karen was a big fan of our special friend and patron Bill Nelson .Karen was a remarkably brave and special person who loved her family and loved life and shared our love of Bill`s music. One of Karen`s last wishes was that her iimpressive collection of Bill Nelson cd`s and books were donated to the Foundation .
Please visit www.sarashopefoundation.co.uk to read Karen`s touching story

A beautiful gesture and much love and thanks to Dave for helping to facilitate Karen's wish. Good luck with the auction, Ged. Two rare and out of print albums to get things under way. Something well worth supporting, folks...

I can't find it either, tom  A lovely gesture for such a worthwhile cause. Some people touch our lives in such a special way, even when we don't know them. If I'm lucky enough to win any of Karen's treasured collection, I shall always remember where they came from. RIP Karen and much love to her family x

Spotted these on eBay this morning. What a wonderful gesture. If there are people out there wondering whether or not to bid - don't hesitate - both wonderful albums and all for a very worthwhile cause.

These are two amazing albums to start off this special auction. Don't think twice about it, if you haven't got them, then bid for them, they don't appear in public very often.

A lovely and thoughtful wish from Karen, and all good thoughts to Dave for seeing it through for her. x

I agree on both counts, Sue. Those CDs are very special, and what a lovely thought from Karen that they should now help others.

Best wishes to Dave and family.

Please find Karen and Dave`s touching story below
We met in 1982 and were married in April 1983 - apparently my late father said that he and my mother need never worry about us having money problems as Karen was so sensible with money - we bought our bungalow in 1986 and she made it into a home with her excellent decorating and gardening skills - she worked part time until 2002 when we decided that we could live comfortably off my income and she then spent a lot of time looking after her mum and dad who were not in good health doing ironing, gardening, shopping, etc and taking them for runs out in her car. We used to follow Hull FC rugby League Club home and away for 27 years until she became too ill to get to the matches. She loved her music and Bill, David Bowie and the Beautiful South were her favourites - we saw Bill at Ferriby and Leeds from memory and I know how much she enjoyed both events. When she was diagnosed with cancer last May she was still more concerned about other people than herself - even though she was diagnosed with cancer in both lungs, liver and brain - initially they tried chemotherapy but when this had no effect on the brain tumours they tried a course of radiotherapy which did improve the symptoms of the brain tumours fairly rapidly - however the lungs and liver never really responded and they ceased the chemotherapy after four courses - they gave her a weeks course of radiotherapy for her breathing in October and things improved for a few weeks. however during December things deteriorated rather rapidly, but Karen insisted she was at home for christmas dinner and that her Dad, my Mum and her sister come and I cook the dinner with her help / guidance. We had a lovely day but after that it became apparent how ill she really was - finally being admitted to the oncology department of the local hospital on News Years Day - they eased the pain substantially but within a fortnight they said she had deteriorated so much that she would be better in the hospice which is much nearer to our bungalow - they moved her on the Saturday and she passed away very peacefully on the Tuesday morning (aged 50). One of her last wishes was that we raise as much money as possible for Saras Hope Foundation by selling her Bill Nelson Collection as she knew it was not really my taste in music.

The warmth and kindness of Bill and his fans never ceases to amaze Julie and I - and this gesture has really touched us so much
We send much love and our sincere thanks to Dave and his family
also a big thank you to John Izzard for bringing Dave`s initial post to my attention - last but not least thank you to Karen for one of the most special and touching gestures that anyone has shown to our family and Sara`s charity since the launch in 2007
For some magical reason the wonderful warmth that the music of Bill Nelson generates seems to attract very caring and unique people
We are so lucky to share something so special
Kind regards and warmest wishes
from Ged and Julie xx and big hug for Karen from Sara x
