George Benson Quartet - 'Willow Weep For Me'

If you like jazz and jazz guitar of the highest order, and you've not heard this track, you owe it to yourself to give this a listen...a technical showcase of George's playing, but what playing!...stunning, sublime etc.. 8) .....From the 1966 album 'It's Uptown', which is a masterpiece!

Nice one Nick, I have not heard that one before 8)

8) .....Glad you enjoyed it!...I somehow thought you might..

Have you heard The The's version from their quite excellent Hank WIlliams cover cd "Hanky Panky"? I always liked this one. Too bad it is only one minute long. What a great voice

Are you into George in the Freddie Hubbard context? By that I mean 'Red Clay' and 'Sky Dive', two of my all-time favourite LP's

Two great records alec.. 8) ...I think my favourite Freddie Hubbard trio would be 'Red Clay', 'Straight Life' and 'First Light'..all featuring George Benson oc...and, same as re George Benson, much better than the more commercial work imho.

I like the CTI recordings of both, especially Hubbard...and my fave George Benson trio of albums would be, the already mentioned 'It's Uptown', 'The George Benson Cookbook'..both on Columbia..and the late 80s offering 'Tenderly', back to the jazz roots and probably his best vocal performance on an album...the musical quality demanded really shines through all the records mentioned.

These guys were meant to play jazz!.. 8) :P
