I think that picture is great, and 1000 times better. It's natural and plays against preconceptions of them/her.

Maybe it was those preconceptions that caused you to take exception to the photo in the first place, when in fact it was just a photo of a girl. She has quite an unusual face and I don't think she was trying too hard to be anything but herself. I imagine photo shoots could be quite awkward for someone like her who isn't a natural 'poser'.

Look how lovely she is. Don't you feel ashamed now?..

Here's an old video of Cocteau Twins being interviewed, which I think probably says more than still photos:

Perhaps when she sings in English, it's like when others's speak in tongues? Aikea Guinea?

This explains it..

I think I'm in the minority of Cocteau Twins fans that prefer their later albums with Liz Fraser doing 'normal' singing. I was never a big fan until I heard Blue Bell Knoll which blew me away..as did Heaven Or Las Vegas. The vocal melodies are lovely when she sings like that. I remember seeing them live shortly after and being disappointed that she reverted back to that very affected style of singing in a live situation.

Well regardless of preferences, you have to admit at the very least she's an original. Not for everyone but you know instantly who you are listening to when it comes to the Cocteau Twins.
