How about the perfect mythical album?

Billy Nicholls - 'Would You Believe?'
A rather obscure pop psyche gem on Immediate.

EDIT: For whatever reason Wiki will not connect directly with this link and so another mouse click will be needed. Ball-breakers!

Wow really? Not used to anyone noticing my more matter-of-fact posts. This one has the most unusual story of any album ever. It actually begins with a nineteen year old Billy slipping a tape to George Harrison with George actually listening to it. The funny thing is Billy's sister had recorded some radio over his demo tape, thinking it blank. So George's response was he hadn't known Billy had written 'My Way' and souded so like Sinatra. But George eventually generated interest in Billy.

But wait. I just read the Wiki write up. As it says, the info has no sources. And that story is not true at all about him meant to intentionally imitate the Beach Boys. It's just that in 1966, a lot of musicians were well into Brian Wilson.

I think Billy Nicholls was one of Andrew Loog Oldham's casualties, and I've heard this album was a 'lost great'

Yes. I think it should have been huge but there were whispers of an anti-Oldham nature at that time.

The first time I actually saw it, the vinyl was copping as much as £1200! Thankfully it was finally reissued in the 90s.

Just read the Wiki entry. It reads like the whole thing's a hoax or something!

I'd just like to reassure readers he does exist and the album did come out as a limited edition on vinyl, costing a fortune :D

Oh, he's real alright. He's been in the employ of The Who for almost thirty years. He has a few other 'relaxing' solo albums but this one is the dawg's indeed. As. Matter of fact, some of the tracks catch The Small Faces at their finest! Ok, I'm rambling now.

Thanks for posting those links, PMT. Being on my mobile, one gets addys which are proprietary and don't seem to work otherwise. There must be a way. :?
