Should our Lancashire colleagues be concerned over the discovery of Gas fields under their green and pleasant countryside?

What have been the recent evidence from the US on the evironmental impacts [and human health] of fracking?

DEpends on who you ask. According to the Gas industry, they're taking all appropriate safety measures to assure that the environment is not harmed and water supplies are not contaminated . The people whose animals are dying and whose water is flammable might have a different opinion. I haven't reasearched it , but I have full confidence in the industry to place people before profit , at all costs, and in general, I believe it's perfectly safe , if one owns a hen house with hens in it, to allow the neighborhood foxes to keep guard. What could possibly go wrong? :D .

Coming to Wales too:
Quote:
A decision on an application to test drill for gas in the Vale of Glamorgan has been deferred by the county council for a site visit.

A Bridgend-based company called Coastal Oil and Gas Ltd has applied for a right to explore for conventional and shale gas at an industrial estate in Llandow.

There is opposition to the application, and to other gas drilling sites in south east Wales. A group called The Vale Says No has been formed.

Yes; very disturbing.

They are getting into fracking here too. I'm glad I don't live anywhere near where it's going on.

Where were we? Oh; that's right, we were busy totally fucking the planet... we'd better get back to work.

Mmm, i realise that i've seen a few times a pro-fracking 0:32 spot from ExxonMobile where Erik Oswald, Geologist, is explaining it.

He smirks while explaining, in tasteful black-and-white, that the ground water is protected by multiple layers of steel and cement and most wells are over a mile and a half deep.

When it comes to spokespersons for industries that are polluters , it's pretty clear that we can think in terms of it being 'opposites day' whenever they tell us about their industries' effects on the environment. :|

What gets me is companies that say: "We have experts doing an independent Environmental Impact Assessment".

I work on the assumption that, if you contract someone to do that, they are going to return the data that you want to hear and discard stuff that you, as their client, don't want to hear.

These EPA's are bogus; bullshit; smoke and mirrors......

They've been fracking about with the seabed off Lancashire for ages, fracking nuisances.
