There is a brilliant vampire film on 5 at 9pm tonight. It is a very different take on the usual theme, and cleverly done. Very bloody at times. though we have to remember that it's NOT REAL plus it IS about vampires LOL!!! Strongly recommend. 8)

An enjoyable film 8)

Also check out a Vampire film called Stakeland - sounds awful , I know, but it's actually pretty good for a low budget movie. Think 28 Days Later with Vampires instead of Zombies 8)

I thought as much.....

'Subspecies' is another of those low budget Vampire movies, right? Doesn't one of the Vamps live in a cave or something like that?

I wish they would make another Anne Rice, Vampire movie, as good a quality as 'Interview With A Vampire' was 8)

The first 'Blade' movie was good fun, and the 'Underworld' series has had the odd okay moment.

I always thought Warren Christopher would have made a good vampire.

It is a low budget movie, however! however! It does come closer to portraying the slow tension building Bram Stoker stye of vampire movie I like. Its a slow building mystery, with plenty of 80s cheese and blood drooling vampire with lanky freaky fingers, stop motion monsters, and rasping! Not an action movie really but pretty creepy and pretty cool in my opinion. And Radu actually lives in a real Romanian castle! In fact the whole movie works because it is shot in Romania entirely and the atmosphere is thoroughly creepy! Its a bit old school I think but despite its low budget its a favorite of mine.

Blade and underworld are more contemporary and actiony, and while they are entertaining they just don't capture that same aesthetic for me! Still, if we are talkin fun flicks to down beers while watching you just can't beat em! 8) Good ludicrous vamp fun with no shortage of one liners, leather, and heavy ordnance. What's not to like?

As for the Anne Rice, I couldn't agree more! I actually enjoy interview with the vampire I must admit, though it isn't perfect by any means. Queen of the damned was just ludicrously funny to me! There is a decent movie buried in there between the hammy acting and gut busting Korn soundtrack. With great lyrics like "Why won't you diiiiiiiiie!"

Most vampire or horror movies are inherently silly though aren't they? It's exceptionally rare that anthing made in the genre comes even close to high brow entertainment. Polanski's film, The Fearless Vampire Killers, is an exception, but not in any way less silly for it 8)
