Clearly there is mutual respect between you and Bill.

In your professional opinion, what is it that makes Bill special and seperates him from the many people you have worked with?

I realise this may be too big a question to answer comprehensively and if so, perhaps you could focus on one particular aspect.

Well, to concentrate on just two aspects of my work with Bill........ here goes :)
As a mastering engineer I get sent or brought a great amount of recorded material to master...from a very wide range of sources and talents both musical and technical. I never make judgements on a musical level. As far as I'm concerned there's room for everything.
But there are many different things I can bring to a mastering session and with Bill it's always about getting his music over to the listening public as directly as possible. The DAT mixes he brings are always very considered and well balanced. This is music as he intended it to be heard so I just dress it up a little using frequency filters and multiband compression. It's not rocket science (although perhaps it should be!!).
The second aspect is more personal and simply this....our friendship. Quite how he manages it, and despite many personal issues of his own which eat into his life and time, Bill always has time to talk.
And from that I take great comfort.
